New Staff and Board at Nonprofit Center

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Nonprofit Center of the Berkshires (NPC) has a new staff member and two new board members.   Sarah Blexrud of South Egremont joins the NPC in the senior position of Director of Operations. Blexrud will oversee finance, membership, marketing, and administration, and assist with strategy and program development. She reports to founder and Executive Director Liana Toscanini. Berkshire County Officials to Work Friday Game at Gillette Stadium

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- A crew of eight Berkshire County high school football officials will take the field on Friday afternoon at Gillette Stadium to officiate the Division 7 State Championship Game.   Referee John Wellspeak will lead a crew that includes umpire Michael Lyon, line judge Marc Field, head linesman Mark Pompi, field judge Matt Conant, side judge John Ciliberti and back judge Gary Pemble. South County Nighttime Bridge and Guardrail Repair

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be conducting nighttime bridge and guardrail repair operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Lee, Becket, Blandford, Montgomery, and Russell.    The work will be conducted at different times and locations from 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, through 5:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 2.  Lane closures will be in place during repair operations.    The schedule for the work and lane closures will be as follows:   Lee Bridge repair work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound at mile marker 8.5 from 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, to 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29.   Becket Guardrail repair

Berkshires In Normal Drought Conditions

BOSTON — While the Commonwealth experienced an increase in precipitation over the previous month, there are regions of the state that continue to be impacted by long term drought conditions.   Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Beth Card announced that Western Mass remains in a level 0 normal drought condition.    Card also announced the following drought declarations: the Central and Southeast Regions have upgraded and will join the Western Region at Level 0-Normal Conditions; the Northeast and Cape Cod Regions have been upgraded and will join the Connecticut River Valley Region at Level 1-Mild Drought; and, the Islands Region will remain at Level

December is the Start of Bird Feeding Season

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department recommends Vermonters wait to put up bird feeders until Dec. 1 to avoid attracting bears.    "Winter bird feeding is a good way to attract birds arriving from Canada, including evening grosbeaks and purple finches, as well as resident birds including northern cardinals and black-capped chickadees," said Doug Morin, Vermont Fish and Wildlife's bird project leader.  "Black oil sunflower is a good seed choice that will attract a variety of birds.  Adding other seeds or suet can help to attract certain species.  Thistle, for example, attracts many of the finches.  Gardeners will find leaving late-blooming

South County Towns Receive Habitat Management Grants

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Great Barrington and Stockbridge were both awarded MassWildlife Habitat Management grants.   The Baker-Polito Administration announced it has awarded $483,922 in state grant funds to thirteen organizations and municipalities to improve wildlife habitat on 514 acres of land within the Commonwealth.    The Berkshire Natural Resources Council in Great Barrington has been awarded $33,875 to control invasive species in the Housatonic River watershed.   The Stockbridge Bowl Association has been awarded $11,885 to conduct hardy kiwi invasive species control at Bullard's Woods.   Now in its ninth year, the MassWildlife Habitat Management
