West Stockbridge Vaccine Clinics

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Berkshire Health Alliance will hold vaccine clinics at the West Stockbridge Town Hall on Oct. 8 and Oct. 17.   Tuesday's clinic will be held from 8 to 10 am and Thursday's clinic will be held from 4 to 6 pm.   Preregister by visiting this website.    Unregistered clients will be vaccinated as time and supplies allow. CHP Mobile Health Offering Covid Vaccines

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — CHP Mobile Health is now offering the 2025 Covid-19 vaccine (Pfizer) during its mobile health clinics throughout the Berkshires.    Patients are also invited to receive a flu shot at the same time, to ward off both Covid and flu this coming fall-winter.   Patients with insurance are asked to bring their insurance card, though no one is denied access to vaccines due to lack of insurance or inability to pay.   The MHU team suggests appointments (particularly for children seeking Covid-19 vaccines) but walk-ups are welcome at our locations.   The MHU schedule can be found here: chpberkshires.org/mobile; information and appointments,

CHP Accepting Applicants for Medical Assistant Work-Training Program

ADAMS, Mass. — CHP Berkshires is accepting applications for its next class of medical assistant trainees, a paid on-the-job vocational program for students interested in a career in health care.     Program completion qualifies students for to sit for their certification as a clinical medical assistant, and the course includes a voucher for the cost of the certification exam.   The first class of medical assistant trainees is nearing completion at the CHP training facility in Adams. Beartown State Forest Campground Extends Camping Season

MONTEREY, Mass. — The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) announced Beartown State Forest is extending the camping season two additional weeks until Oct. 27, 2024.    In July, the campground reopened with more than $350,000 improvements, including modern bathroom facilities and enhanced amenities.     While the campground was closed, DCR made significant upgrades to the site including the installation of two brand new bathrooms equipped with running water and flush toilets, several new water spigots, and updated tables and grills. DCR also added internet connectivity and a new year-round staff position to ensure improved visitor

Berkshire South 5K Fundraiser Returns

W.E.B. Du Bois Sculpture Project Awarded Grant

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The W.E.B. Du Bois Sculpture Project has been awarded $50,000 from the Massachusetts Office of Economic Development for completion of a statue of W.E.B. Du Bois to be sited in front of the Mason Public Library on the main street of Great Barrington.   The funding was requested by State Senator Paul Mark, Chair of the State's Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development.    "Few people know that Du Bois—a civil rights giant and founder of the NAACP—was born and raised in Great Barrington," said Sen. South County Nighttime Construction Operations

Fairview Hospital Golf Classic Raises Funds for Equipment

I first had the opportunity to meet Leigh Davis at a small gathering in April. I was immediately impressed with her intelligence, authenticity, and genuine interest in what others in the room had to say. I felt a deep sense of excitement that night, over the idea that this person could actually be my state representative.

As a millennial, I am part of a hollowed-out demographic in Berkshire County. It is not an unreasonable argument to make that population decline is responsible, directly or indirectly, for nearly all other issues we face.

Becket Police K-9 Mourned

BECKET, Mass. — The police force's K-9 Kain died Sept. 14 after six years of service to the town.    The Police Department, in a Facebook post, said Kain had "proudly and enthusiastically served as a member of the Becket Police Department since August of 2018."   Born in Hungary on Aug. 28, 2017, Kain was a dual-purpose police canine. He was certified by the North American Police Work Dog Association, a nationally recognized certification that he successfully renewed annually at a weeklong training conference.
