GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.— A North Egremont man is facing charges after allegedly crashing into an outside display at Taft Farms and injuring a child. John W. Tynan, 83, is being charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor carrying more than 100 days' incarceration, and possession of an open container, according to Great Barrington Police. The charges are dated July 2, when the vehicle Tynan was driving hit the display at the farm store on Park Street and pinned a 3-year-old in a bin of watermelons. Initial scanner reports and posts on Facebook indicated that a vehicle had gone into the building and injured multiple pedestrians.

MILFORD, Mass. – Robert Baer went 2-for-3 with four RBIs Sunday to lead the Sheffield Post 340 Seniors to a 13-3 win over Pittsfield Post 68-2 in the Massachusetts American Legion Tournament. Christian Blanchard, Jack Bissaillon, Ben Kelly and Brady Carpenter each had a pair of hits in a 14-hit attack for Sheffield, which ended the game after five innings. Bissaillon earned the win on the mound with a complete-game effort, striking out seven and walking three. Post 68-2 used three different pitchers, who combined to allow eight earned runs. WESTFIELD, Mass. – For the second straight day, an opponent got off to a fast start and held on for a win over the Southern Berkshire Knights at the 16-year-old Babe Ruth New England Regional on Bullens Field. On Saturday, it was the Vermont State Champion scoring five times in the bottom of the first en route to a 6-2 win over the Knights. The DA's Office on July 24 identified the victim as Rainiely Meteo, 25, of Springfield. BECKET, Mass. — A man drowned Friday in Becket Quarry; his remains were recovered on Saturday. According to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office, the victim, a man in his 20s, and a woman, were swimming across the quarry on Friday. The man began to struggle and quickly submerged under the water. The woman and others who were on the shore at the time attempted to locate and rescue the victim. They were unsuccessful. Du Bois will be unveiled in his hometown this Saturday at 2 p.m. The bronze sculpture, created by artist Richard Blake, will sit on a curving marble bench at the center of a redesigned plaza at Mason Public Library.
